The Space
The 1300 sq. ft. one-story frame house was the home of Juanita J. Craft, one of Dallas´s most significant civil rights figures and the second Black American woman to serve on the Dallas City Council. The Garden is to the right of the main house and enclosed by a small wrought-iron fence and bordered by bushes.

The Building
The 1300 sq. ft. one-story frame house was the home of Juanita J. Craft, one of Dallas´s most significant civil rights figures and the second Black American woman to serve on the Dallas City Council.
Programming at the Juanita Craft Civil Rights House is coordinated by the South Dallas Cultural Center, which is part of the City of Dallas Office of Arts and Culture. Juanita J. Craft lived in this house for 50 years, and both Lyndon B. Johnson and Martin Luther King, Jr., visited her there to discuss the future of the civil rights movement.
Juanita Craft’s home on Warren Avenue in South Dallas is part of Dallas’s Wheatley Place Historic District.
